Kahr Arms...How they doin'?
« on: November 02, 2005, 08:06:37 AM »
Just curious to ask how Kahr's firearms have worked for you guys that have or tried them.  They seem to be pretty nice looking, and great size-wise for CC.  Not that I am considering one some day soon, but I'm just wondering how they've performed for you, and their overall accuracy, reliability, trigger, fit, feel, etc.

I have been really impressed with my PM40.  Its a great size for concealed carry, lightwieght, and remarkably accurate.  I have been shooting federal premium 180gr Hydroshocks out of it for average 6 shot groups of 4-5 inches at 25 yards.  I think you would be hard pressed to find a better carry gun.

I have the K40.

Never a problem at all. Always works when trigger pulled. I use it in a Galco shoulder holster.

I wouldn't hesitate to get another Kahr.

I bought the ka40 with the blue finish when they first came out. This was a replacement for my old chiefs special as a backup/offduty gun.The K40 handles like a full size pistol but is about the same size as a PPK.

I have had zero malfunctions with Federal Hydra-Shok(180gr) and Speer Gold Dot(180gr) factory ammo.We were forced to use some very crappy locally made reloads for practice and qualification. The Kahr did not like them with failures to chamber being the norm, they seem to have tight chambers, but with a clean gun and factory ammo run flawlessly.

My only gripe about the gun is the blue finish is not very durable or rust resistant.Kahr nolonger makes this version, but I prefer blue/black finishs.

I really like how this gun is built, old school=forgings and milled from bar stock parts. The full sized Kahrs feel solid, like your shooting a full sized gun.It is easy to field strip and clean.

I normally despise DOA actions on auto-pistols,but the Kahr is one of the few exceptions. It is very smooth and feels lighter than the rated 8 lbs.I shoot the K40 better than the old J-frame.Even though the K40 weighs the same as my SIG duty gun,it doesnt feel like a big gun in a proper holster,I use Uncle Mike body armor holster and a Milt Sparks Executive Companion.

I feel these guns are very underrated and real sleepers. The K9 is a real pussycat to shoot if you dont like the K40s brisker recoil.

I gotta weigh-in on this one. P40 covert. I love it. accurate reliable strong. One gripe, I don't mind recoil. I shoot a lot of magnum handguns but the hottest loads with the no pinky grip cause the gun to twist just enough to sometimes bump the mag release on my thumb and unlock the magazine. Hence, FTF.
Corbons are the hottest and cause the problem to often. Hornady 155gr, Aquila IQ and Hydrashocks wer the most powerful loads that were controllable. The Hydrashocks would not group well so I use the other 2 and love the performance. Great carry gun.

I was curious to know, being the triggers on Kahr pistols are DAO, does the slide have to be cycled before the trigger and firing pin can reengage?  I think they are pretty nice pistols, but the only reason I wouldn't want to own a DAO pistol again is the fact that if the round fails to fire, then you would have to pull the slide back again before a pull of the trigger draws the firing pin.  Is that also the case with these?

The answer is....yes.

I don't know if I'd base a decision to purchase on that, though. How many times have you ever needed two strikes of the firing pin? I have 15 pistols, and have never needed a second pull of the trigger. Your assumption is based on theory.....rather than reality.

The all-steel ones are good guns but the plastic ones have been going ka-boom ...

Are you saying this was Kahr's fault? Looks like a case of using bad ammo to me.

Auto pistols even the all steel ones aren't the platform for questionable ammunition.  If you run factory or good reloads you will have no problem.  I don't shoot any reload out of my Kahr because it doesn't make much sense with the cheap pistol ammo out there.  Even a all steel revolver will KB with overmax loads of powder.

My Kahr pm9 shoots every time with good trigger control for this gun.  Accuracy is acceptable for cc.  Recoil in the 9mm is not a problem.  The polymer 40s have a heafty recoil and too much for me to place additional shots within reasonable group size.  Functioning is perfect. It is small enough to fit in center console in car.

Have several Kahr's P9 is my favorite cc weapon.  Have a new p45 but have not gotten enough rounds thru it to completely trust it. When I do will probably swap to that for cc gun.
