Be nice if there was some sort of "caller ID" for the net.  Pay him back a visit.  Get ALL the members to forward him all the trash emails we get

We're working on it. We've not got it all fixed yet by any means but we're trying. Most of the real work has to be done by Matt as a lot of stuff on the Admin side was messed up and he has to take care of that.

I'm just trying to restore the accounts of folks who's accounts were hi-jacked like Qucik's. At this time I have five or six other accounts that were also taken but I don't know  who they belong to. I knew Qucik's by the number of posts and he was a Moderator and the name was in a place I could ID him.

But someone with 260 posts has had their account taken and I do not know who. Any help would be appreciated. I have all the hi-jacked accounts taken back and they are in a holding patterm waiting the owner identifying themselves to me via e-mail hopefully so I can restore them.

Thanks Bill!!!

Jeff, check out the link below, it has some links to free software that may help you clean your PC to working internet capability. The Housecalls scan may take a while but it can fix some serious stuff if you can get online to them, it will walk you through things it can't auto fix to lead you to a solution for ridding your PC of the offending malware.

I just logged on for the first time today.  Glad to hear this site is back up and running.  Otherwise, I'd be in withdrawal.

Thanks, Bill for providing and maintaining this site!!! :D

Any idea whether the hacking was done by anti-gun or anti-hunting types or just run-of-the-mill scoundrels?

For malware, I use a cocktail of Ad-Aware, Spywareblaster, and Spybot.  Spyblaster and Spybot have an "immunize" function that blocks known malware from being installed in the first place.  All three are free at www.download.com

Any older machine with a modem, 64mb-256mb ram will be internet capable, one of the first machines I built for a young fella to access the net was a pentium 90 w/32Mb ram, it worked fine for him with the limitations of a 56k modem. I just built a PC for a fella at the post office who works with my wife, it's a Cely 366, 192Mb ram, 4.3Gb hard drive, Win 98se, it's all he needs for internet access and maintaining is client database for his hunting guide business. The thing is, with a maching like that, is to keep it cleaned up, free of malware, IE: spyware and viruses, and to limit the programs that are running in the background. Do the 3 fingered salute, CTL-ALT and hit the DEL key to bring up the task manager, if there's more than a page of info, there's too many programs running. For Win98 or later, run MSCONFIG in the start menu and hit the startup tab, uncheck as many programs as you can to reduce those that aren't needed to be started at startup. The link below will walk you thru this process.

Ian, I run those, plus Aluria Security Center, Pest Patrol, Zone Alarm Pro, MS Beta1 Anti-Spyware and Norton AV!!!  Haven't been infected with anything that I couldn't get rid of......so far!! Knock wood!!!! The key to running any AV or anti-spyware is update it frequently and run scans...at least once a week, daily is even better.

My wife has something on her computer at work that Ad-Aware calls a "VX2 Variant" but can't get rid of it.  I downloaded their VX2 add-on and it recognized it but couldn't squash it.  It was one of those "send us this log file and we'll research it" kind of problems.  :?

I was wondering how long it would take to get it back up, and it wasn't long at all. Again excellent job. There is a program called   ewido    it's a great program and will clean up your computer of spyware that bypasses some of the other guys, like Nortan.

I tried to log in earlier today around 4pm or so and go a message like GBO is not available at this time.

Sorry to hear that you got hacked Bill wasn’t me.

Glad things weren't completely FUBAR.
