870 Question
« on: November 02, 2005, 03:18:09 PM »
Ok, I checked the manufacture codes and found that my shotgun was made in September 1991.  The left hand side of the receiver says "Remington Model 870 MAGNUM".  No mention of it being an express or special purpose or anything.

My question is what barrels will fit this gun.  I want to add a vent rib barrel but I have heard that special purpose and express barrels are not interchangeable and I don't want to get the wrong style.

Any clues?

Thanks,
:m:ario

Most barrels should be able to fit this gun. The LC barrels might not be able to fit, but a standard Express vent rib should fit fine. Good luck. :D

Thanks for the reply JP.  I was looking at a barrel on ebay the other day but was not certain it would fit so I passed.

If you have an 870 Wingmaster any 870 barrel will fit.  If you use a LC barrel the difference will be you will have a bigger gap in the sides of the forearm.
Good Shooting,
George

I bought an 870 express with the ventilated barrel, but wanted to get a slug barrel for it. The gun dealer sold me a 2 3/4 blued slug barrel from a wingmaster. I has worked flawlessly for me for the last 12 years. Finally got an express barrel for the shotgun with a 3" chamber. At least now the finish on the barrel matches the receiver. Worm

Ended up getting a 28" wingmaster barrel for it and it fits great.  Can't wait for turkey season!

Thanks guys for the help!
