Couldn't pass it up.
Ran into a fella that had a M-10 4" blue, thin barrel, bought in the early '80s. UNFIRED with a box of 50 rem. Hi-Speed 158 grain round nose ammo.
For 200 bucks I thought it a good deal so I grabbed it.
Classic gun to my eyes.
Of course I had to shoot the thing.
When I joined the police force in 1972 we were issued the M-10 or Colt police positive.
I had a Colt 5" and it was a good bread and butter handgun.
The M-10 was the predominant issue in 4".
Wish I had the Colt but the M-10 is a dandy.
Don't discount the M-10 .38 spl. with 125 grain +P ammo for defense either.

I have a Model 10 like the one you bought. I love them too. My first duty gun was a 4" Model 19. I traded it off for a 686 that I still have. You gotta love S&W revolvers. You know you got a great deal!

You are absolutely correct, that M-10 is a classic and I think mine has the perfect balance for my hand of all my revolvers. I agree the +Ps give you a good defense round but some of the older loads, like that box of ammo turn out to be just the ticket for those beauties. I like the 200 gn bullet in my 38s and 357s. The old Winchester factory load for that bullet is very accurate in my M-10 and that can be duplicated from the Lyman manual. Mikey.

I'm glad you're shooting that M-10, it would be a shame to waste a sweet-shooting gun like that. I've had several S&W revolvers thru the years, some better than others. Some were issued, some were privately owned, all were emminently shootable. I'll never buy a Smith with a lock on it, I think the older guns are tougher, slicker, and more enjoyable. I carry a 4" Model 10 on duty, and have for years. Some time later this month I'll fire my 50,000th round thru it since I got it. And it's as tight as ever. I don't abuse it, and it doesn't abuse me. We get along just fine!

:cb2: Found a used one, made in the '60s, that didn't look like it had been fired. It kept calling to meover, and over, and over again. Even called to me in my sleep. I weakened. They were only asking $175 for it, and well, that was about the best $175 I ever spent. Man, what a shooter.

older Model 10s are one of the best value priced guns to be had on today's market. I found a used 10 on a auction site and won the bid of $146.00. plus $35 for s/h and ffl, total $181.00.

did some cleaning work on it and added factory wood grips.

Outstanding guns and you guys got some great prices. I think these are some of the most underated self defense guns available and they are just fun to shoot.

I have several model 10s, but one of "pride and joy" guns is a heavy barrel model 10 a rib and Bomar sights. The trigger has been worked, it shoots great. I would put this gun up against some of the best target pistols.

You got a great buy, and it looks like stepnmud did good with his purchase. I don't know why, but I often see model 10s go very cheap on Auction Arms. Just this week, I was watching a stainless model 19 that went for $235. From the pictures, the gun looked new. It is a good place to pick-up a Smith at a good price. :roll: :roll: :roll:
