Ok,I may be dead wrong,but i think i can sight in a gun with one shot,maybe this is common knowledge and maybe not,here goes.
My logic is this,once you know where the bullet is hitting you just have to tell the scope.
First,from a VERY steady rest,shoot at a bullseye
THEN,go to the target and find where the bullet struck,put an orange dot or other easy to see point of reference.
Go back to the bench and strap the gun into the rest,with the crosshairs on the bullseye.
NOW turn the adjustments until the crosshairs point at the orange dot.
shoot to confirm
(ok you may want to shoot a 3 shot group first to make SURE that's really where the rifle is hitting before moving the windage and elevation)
Does anyone already know of this method?
Anyone see why it won't work?
when i get my rifle back i'm gonna test the theory,lol

....if it works out for ya, I'll have you come out west and do all my guns for me. That should save me countless hours, hundreds of rounds and a membership to the hematoma club. Let me know how it goes.

A guy at the range showed me that a year or so ago. It works farley well when I can hold the gun still and adjust the scope over to the pint of impact.

Theoretically it works. It usually takes me between 3 and 5 shots to site in and confirm my POA.

Yup it does work! The key to the hole (pun intended) thing is to have the gun FIRMLY anchored while adjusting the scope to get the crosshairs over the first shot.

If the gun is FIRMLY anchored, and the scope adjusted, the next shots at the bull will hit it.

One option, if you cannot FIRMLY anchor with something mechanical, like a vice or sandbags, is, after firing the first shot, have a buddy/wife/assistant move the adjustments on the scope while you hold the gun FIRMLY as you keep looking down the scope at the target.You will tell the buddy/wife/assistant in which direction to move the adjustments as you watch the crosshairs move. (It is most useful of course to have removed the caps from the adjustments before you fire the shot! Saves much jiggling of everything while you are trying to hold the gun FIRMLY) :grin:

And as Brett says, even though it is theoretically (and actually) possible, a few more shots to confirm are well worth the time and effort.

Even though I have done this 'one shot wonder' many times, I have never actually stopped with just one shot. I always fire at least a couple or more (usually more) just to confirm. A bunch of shots in the same place gives me the feeling of comfort I want before I walk away and consider my hunting rifle 'sighted in'.
