Ok Guys  I am determined to make an old Favorite into something different.   (This action has been sitting on my dresser being used as a paper weight for much too long,)
I asked a while ago going to a 22 hornet and not safe. I assume that the 17 hmr would have too much pressure also but ....

      What about the 17 mach2 ??

would an old Stevens favorite action be strong enough to safely handle  17Mach2 pressure ???

    Thanks a lot

        Mike

If the action checks out to be in good condition, I see no reason the little .17 Mach2 would not be good in the Favorite. The Favorite is an easy gun to rebarrel, due to the non threaded receiver, but if in doubt, you could have the receiver threaded, and thread the new barrel to match.

always thought it would be cool to have one with a .22barrel, and a .17m2 barrel! with the thumb screw, set up, you could take your pick!
what a squirrel rifle! i had a contender carbine barrel in .17m2 for a while. and it,s a great head shot only squirrel cartrige!!! shoots flat farther than i can shoot open sights!

The 22lr, 22 Mag and 17m2 Are allowed to be loaded to SAAMI 24,000 PSI MAP (Maximum Average Pressure) and are commonly loaded to 22,500 PSI

The SAAMI MAP for the 17HMR is 26,000 and it is commonly loaded to 24,500. So you can see that the 17HMR is only SLIGHLY hotter than the other rimfire rounds. I certainly don't believe that the slight difference is beyond what the Favorite will handle and I am almost certain that it is now being chambered in the 17HMR so if you want one either build it or buy it. You will be alright.

By the way those pressures are from CCI's tech people and they are measured with the newer piezoelectric strain gage method rather that the older and not as accurate Copper Crusher method in which pressure was given in C.U.P. or Copper Units of Pressure. I have always wanted a Favorite and one of these dyas I just may get one.

I have been hoping that Varner would finally get their act together and produce their beautiful version of one.
