I bored one of my .30-06 barrels to .338-06 and it works great.  I could not go to my original choice - the .375-06 - because the rear sight holes were too deep and the large bore would have left a questionable amount of steel between the bore and the atmosphere.

I have not done it, but you can probably fire .270 ammo in a .30-06; the question is why?  Because the .270 is a longer case, the fired neck would probably have a step in it right at the mouth.

Shooting a .270 in the '06!!!????

That's after full-length sizing the brass and running a .30 cal expander ball through the neck of the .270 brass, right?

THAT"S PERFECTLY SAFE!

A friend of mine used to make .270 brass FREQUENTLY from '06 and sometimes .280 Remy's.  Said he was "saving their lives!"  He was/is a .270-aholic.  Didn't like making .270 brass from .25/06 since that puts more fatigue on that brass, although its possible to do so.

Make sure to totally resize-process the new brass whichever way you go, and newer brass works better than worn or multi-fired brass.  And depending on the brand, "annealing" should be understood and used if it makes a difference.

No...you cannot shoot 270 ammo in a 30-06...don't even try it...you can resize and trim 270 brass to reload your ammo in and make work...as what has already been said...but not loaded 270 ammo...in the 30-06..

FYI....There are different  case dimensions for the 338-06 Wildcat...and the 338-06 A-Square...I ran into this on my conversion...it won't matter a-lot if you are planning on strictly handloading for it...but it will matter greatly if your wanting to use factory ammo for it...you'll need to discuss this with your gunsmith and have the chamber cut properly...Weatherby changed the dimensions on it when they got it SAMMI approved...they increased the neck lenght on it and factory ammo will be too long to fit.Wayne found this out when he re-bored/re-chambered mine and Quicks...
