How about chambering a 25-06 in the 257 Roberts? Is that possible?

You could take a .223 Handi barrel and have it rebored and rechambered to .257 Roberts. :D

The .257R chamber is smaller than a .25-06 so it won't clean it up. A 24" .223 bull barrel is the way to go as Fred has done.

The bull barrel is 24" long, compared to 22" for the standard contour. Fred also milled his barrel to an octagon shape which was way cool! Wayne York charges $300 for a rechamber/rebore.

Sure would, just wouldn't be ideal, that's all. I think I'd want the most I could get out of it if I was gonna put the money in it. Kinda the difference of putting $300 into building a .338-06 out of a 26" 25-06 barrel instead of using a .22" .30-06, that extra barrel length in the quarter bore will make a noticable difference in velocities, the smaller the bore, the more difference there will be for each inch gained or lost. Bull barrel is stiffer and all else being equal, will shoot better and heat up slower.

bladerunner.
The 257 Roberts is a deer rifle with varmint applications if you like.
A 24" barrel give the Handi nice balance but not with a bull barrel.

There are not many 24" Handi barrels available for the conversion, the 223 is one of them but it has a bull barrel and is too heavy for a deer rifle. A 22" barrel is ok but it will not produce the dynamic handling qualities that a 24" or 26" barrel has. Besides the ballistics are much superior in the longer barrel.

So the only choices you have is to rebore to a inferior barrel length or reduce the weight of a 24' bull barrel to medium sporter weight.

Turning a barrel down is not expensive but you will have to get it reblued.

Octagon, rebore and chamber plus blueing would perhaps cost $600 and about $450 turing and blueing and rebore with chamber.
