Well,
I searched for a good Contender forum and think I've found it!
My father had a contender in the early 1980's, 22LR, 30-30, 44 Mag, all octagon. I learned to reload on it some (as some of the load notes are in my handwriting). He sold it sometime in the 80's.
I recently picked up a Contender with the following barrels:
22 LR Octagon (10")
223 Rem Bull (14")
7mm TCU Bull (10")
7mm TCU Tapered Carbine (21")
30-30 Win Bull (10")
357 AMP (14") SSK
375 Win Bull (14")
45 Colt/410 (10" w/ choke)
So I have a good bit of fun developing loads for all these. I'm sure not going to mess with 22, 223, 30-30, 357 AMP, and 45 Colt as I have loads for those already.
I also got 400 pieces of formed TCU Brass (from 223-mixed). I sorted it and primed 100 Remignton Cases today. Should load some tomight or tomorrow. I'm gonna use 139 gr BTSP Hornady that I use in my M95 Mauser.
I really enjoyed shooting my father's contender, hope it brings back good memories (though none of his barrels were scoped).
I remember shooting the 30-30 Barrel when I was 12, he didn't want to let me. I insisted (probably complained or whined). I shot it fine, and shot it several times. It was 10" also.
I hope to sight it in this week and maybe take it deer hunting over Thanksgiving (probably as 7mm TCU Carbine).
Man, I am excited!
