Sooooo...is this a question on recomendations of which barrel to purchase? If so...go with the heavy 24" barrel...I had good luck with mine...

I have a 24in in the 243 and like it also have some 22in in other cals. like them too. Its what you want and feel OK with. I know that don't help much.

22" heavy barrel is enough excercise for me when i carry one.

don't use any bullet over 90 gr's for deer or varmints.  that's right, don't go over 90 gr's for deer in  a .243.   the 22" barrel is plenty for that bullet weight.

i chose that bullet weight (80 to 90 grains actually) because they're better at shocking deer and opening up on them if you get the right ones.   the 22" barrel is, therefore, a natural for anyone who has to carry that rifle any significant distance.

If you're in no hurry, I'd opt for the new 24" fluted .243 bull barrel, they should be out next year, I'm guessing by summer, sooner for a complete rifle.

My 243 SS Synthetic hasn't been very accurate......yet, My bull barrel 243 shoots  would around an inch. If they come out with the Fluted 243, I'll have to have one.....that  would make 13 H&R's

I would also go with a 24" barrel. It would also be fluted if available.

Looks like 24". Don't like survivor stock and no money to change out. which means probably will not get fluted to start with. Money is always an issue here.

That's not a survivor stock, it's a Choate Machine Ultra Varmint stock, makes the survivor stock look like a toy stock, although they're both made by Choate as is the standard synthetic stock. The Ultra stock is adjustable for LOP and height, has a real recoil pad, and the forend is a bench shooter's dream in comparison with a removable bipod T-rail and wide profile.

Ultra Varmint fluted

Just a side note...ever wonder why NEF/H&R used a crappy little Simmons 8-Point scope for a Long Range Varmint rifle? :)  :)  :)
Maybe it's just me
