.25ACP conversion for Encore...PROBLEMS...pics!!!
« on: November 07, 2005, 05:52:52 AM »
Not sure what is going on here... I have sent an e-mail and pics to Cecil and am awaiting his report.

I just bought a custom .50 cal barrel from MGM and was shooting three pellets of 777 with various bullets. These pics are after 10-12 shots... .25 ACP brass was filthy inside and out as well as the gun.

Any ideas? The only thing I could come up with is that the barrel and breach plug threads were not to spec and allowing for some escaping through that way? I don't know what else to think? My brother was right next to me shooting a .25ACP breach plug with the factory TC ML barrel and his was clean??

Thoughts and expertise please...

Thanks!

Mark

Dunno if everyone has seen this yet, but it's an alternative to the 25 ACP conversion, it's made by PR, I think.

From what you said and the pic's, it looks like the barrel threads on the MGM custom may not be the same as the factory Encore barrels.

That may work in this situation due to the barrel being a custom barrel. But I personally would not want to go back to a small 209 primer size ignition system.

I use the Variflame in my NEF Sidekick with Small Pistol Primers and it works wonerfully, I will never use anything else now. Jack.

I can't vouch for the system, I can't even legally use it here for hunting, but it sure looks like a good alternative...

Amen brother!! The Variflame is awsome  I alos get best results with Small Pistol Primers, very consistant and plenty of spark for real blackpowder or pyrodex. Jack.

I have the 25 acp in my Encore, no problems, and I use American Pioneer Powder, much cleaner than 777 pellets.

I haven't dealt with the 209s here, we're limited to traditional style caps, #11 or musket, so I use the flangeless RWS musket caps which are fairly easy to handle and I slip a short piece of surgical tubing over it and the nipple to keep water out. With a cap inside a piece of tubing, it makes a nice little package that's easy to install when needed. The musket caps work well with T7 loose powder, never have used or liked the pellets, too expensive and I like to fine tune my loads, just not my cup O'tea!

I have one of these, I took it to the range 1 time and figured out it is not for me. I will be willing to sell ($20.oo shipped) or trade it .
It worked well enough, but for me it is just to easy to drop a primer out of my stand and not worry about them.
since I mostly just hunt with my 15" encore barrel and shots are normally way less then 75 yards and closer to 30-40 yards I get no real see no real advantage for me.

AMEN brother!

You just cannot explain the difference to someone until they've lived it.

ABSOLUTELY!

Four Pellets - 300 grn SST - and watch the deer dump!!!

This is, of course, after 4-8 shots off the bench to get her sighted in...  I'm confident that is all it will take!

Good Luck next week!!!
