Knight American Question
« on: November 07, 2005, 06:35:28 AM »
I have a Knight American that will not group. I have used Power Belts, Sabots and two or three other bullets. I have tried Pyrodex, Triple Seven and Americcan Pioneer Powder. The best that this gun will do with 90 grains of American Pioneer and 245 grain Sabots is about two feet at 100 yards. The same with Power Belts. The bullets were all over the target.
I finally got the gun to group about three inches with Harnady 385 grain Buffalo Bullets and 90 grains of triple 7.
What gives? Can anyone offer any suggestions? Are the Knight Americans this sorry of a muzzle loader?

My buddy has an American Knight that will put 250 SSTs into a inch and a half at 100 yards...he shoots 90 grains Triple Seven...Nope...nothing wrong with American Knights....If you are really talking two feet at 100 yards....you have major problems...do you have a scope on it??? If so I would take it off and see if it will group with open sights...Is the allen screw that holds the barrel to the stock tight??? Are you cleaning between shots??? Is the bore "slick" when you load a bullet??? Did the factory forget to rifle the barrel???

I shoot a wolverine 50 cal with a 1 in 28 twist.  It loves 220 grain dead center sabots over 80 grains (by volume) of 777 fffg.  It is lit off by a #11 cap (no 209's for me). It will shoot a ragged hole group at 100 yards off the bench.

Hope this helps.
