Well Cal, just so's you'll know I'm not prejudiced, I think you just bought the best rifle in the best caliber available to common men. I have a 1B in .223 that's an excellent shooter. I had to free float the foreend to make it consistent, but I did the cheap and easy thing by putting a small aluminum washer between the foreend and the mounting bracket. Works great. I just bought a new 1V in 22/250, stainless and pepper, which I haven't even fired yet. Will let you know. I had a blued 1V in 22/250 for a few years and found that the heavy barrel just about eliminated any problems caused by the foreend. Make sure not to over-tighten the foreend screw. I turn it just till it makes tension, then 1/2 turn more. Never a problem after that. Hope you have a great time with the new 1V. When you get a moment, carefully measure the twist of the barrel and let me know what it is. I'm compiling barrel twist data here.

All the best,
ReedG

Thanks ReedG for the positive post. The 223 cal. is my favorite for some reason.I have several bolt guns in this cal.I will certainly measure the twist tomorrow and let you know.I do this anyway in determining the weight bullet to start with. All of my bolt guns seem to favor the 55gr. ballistic tip and 21.7grs.of IMR4198.I find the bullet seating depth has a tremendous influence on its accuracy also. :D Well,I shot my new #1V in 223 today. With 55gr.BT and 21.5 grs.IMR4198 it shot a one ragged hole for 4 shots. If I could get the trigger lighter I would be quite happy. I have found a new product(to me) to clean a barrel. This stuff is called Blue Wonder and it will really clean a barrel.I have Sweets,Remington,JB,Borebrite, and a couple of others. This cleaner is much better and it will remove rust also.It does not have any abbrasive compound in it either.
