Quick question

Is it okay to mention Ebay auctions regarding Contender related items?  Should I use the Classified section?  I'm not sure of the etiquette.

That's one for the moderator or GB himself. But as a matter of course, I wouldn't place it in this forum. I always post in this classified section before I spend the time and money to list on e-bay. I might get more on e-bay but by the time I pay the listing fees, selling fees, and PayPal fees I come out ahead doing it on this board. Also the trading section is very bueno, means I don't really have to get rid of anything, I just change it. Gotta like that.

Thank you both for responding!  As I said, I wasn't sure of the proper etiquette, so I figured I'd ask first.  Seemed the right thing to do.
Actually, I have been reading the various forums here for a while but my original registration disappeared.  I've learned a lot from the many good postings, and will continue to read them avidly.  Again... thanks for the responses! :-)

Quick question

This question brings into play more than one of my rules.

I have a rule saying that if YOU list an item on an auction site don't list it on my Classifieds Forum. Don't care if you list it on all the Classifieds sites on the internet, just if it is on an auction site don't list it on my Classifieds. Reason is you aren't really free to sell it to the folks on my site it you've locked it into an auction site and I'm not in the business of advertising auction sites.

I also have a rule saying don't advertise items for sale on my discussion forums. Use the Classifieds Forum.

Since you didn't say if the item is one you have to sale or one you saw you thought might be of interest it is hard to be specific in a response. But generally speaking if someone has commented they sure are looking for some item and you happen to have noticed it elsewhere I have no problem with you letting them know it is available where ever you found it. An e-mail or PM would be preferable but as long as the discussion forums don't get clogged up with such messages I have no real problem with an occasional such notation.

I really don't want to see folks start posting as I've seen on some other sites every time you see something on an auction site or some other site just to let folks know it is there. My reason for this is that now that we are on the database system I pretty much don't delete old posts or even look at them. They are left in the database so you can later search and find what hopefully will be helpful info. BUT things of that nature are but temporary in nature and have no place in the database for later use. Thus me or Homer have to be trying to sort thru to delete them when they've gotten a bit old and no longer have meaning or leave them and clog up the database with totally irrelavant info. While the database can become quite huge I'm sure there is gonna be some eventual limit to the size it can grow and so that some day I might end up having to go in and chop something from it. I hope not. I really don't want that effort but it might happen.

I prefer the discussion forums to be limited to discussion and the Classifieds to be used for that and the subject changed to let me know to delete when the item is gone.

Asking about what is a fair price is reasonable discussion whether you have an item to sell and want help in deciding how to price it or if you want to buy and are wondering what is a fair price to pay. I don't like it when folks then use the forums as opposed to PMs or e-mails to try to buy it or sell you one depending on the situation. Once again those are temporary in nature but since I'm not gonna be reading all posts to delete when no longer current they just clog the database with irrelavant data.

I specifically tried to keep it vague since as I've said, I didn't know the etiquette.
I've gone on long enough, and had the answers I was seeking, so I'll shut up now.  I hope this question helped somebody besides just me.
     Thanks to all! :)  :)
