Author Topic: Powder choice for 25-06 (Read 342 times)

Those of you who load for the ¼ bore in a handy what powder are you using to get youre your best results. Looked through my load manuals & I do not have any of their recommended powders. Since handies do their best below full house loads I was hoping to get one of the slower burning powders recommended to try & squeeze the most performance out of a moderate loading. This is my 1st 25cal rifle, mine are 30 cal & up except for the 223 & 22hornets. Any help would be appreciated since I dont want to chunk out a bunch of $$ for a number of different powders :eek:

IMR 4350 for the 120's and 115's
IMR 4831 for the 100's
RL 19 for the 85 grainers

Speer's

Re25 for the 120's
IMR4350 for the 100's
Viht N560 for the 87 grainers

Sierra's...

RE 22 for the 117 & 120 grainers..
RE 22 for the 100's
Viht N150 for the 87 & 90 grainers
Viht N160 for the 75 grainers

Hornady's

Imr 4350 for the 120's
IMR 4064 for the 117's
IMR 4350 for the 100's
H4895 for the 87 grainers
H4350 for the 75 grainers..

Barnes..

H4831 or RL 19 for all weights

Swift's

IMR 4350 for either the 100 or the 120

I have only reloaded the Hornady 75g V-Max but my powder choices are IMR 4350 and IMR 4064.

Wow MAC now thats a lot of powders & info

Had most of that in my books I was just looking for 1 or 2 that you fellas have found to work well with these handies not necessarily a load but just something that got decent results. I dont have any suitable powder in my inventory so just would like an idea of where to start (kind of cheap that way)

You said slow and you wanted to get by cheap, so that's why I said one of the 4831's and didn't list every suitable powder. 4831 should take care of your needs with most bullet types and weights. It does for me. :wink:

I had the best results with the 25-06 Ultra Handi with H1000 and 117gr. Pro Hunter.

In the Ruger#1 25-06 I use Reloder 22 and 100gr Barnes TSX bullets.

Reloader 22 is very versatile in this cartridge, even though it is somewhat temp. sensitive. H4831 is also quite good. For 120 Grain bullets & above,
nothing has beat RL25 for me.
