Home Land Security is watching.
« on: November 08, 2005, 03:22:06 AM »
I'm trapping on a 36 section ranch, some of the pastures are on the Canadian border.Saturday while driving along the border checking traps a HLS Dodge pulls up to check on me.I told him I was coyote trapping,he looks at the coyotes in the back.I asked why he was way out here.He said the Canadians have motion sensors and I've been setting them off.The Canucks call this in to Homeland Security and they check it out. This guy was a hunter so we chit chat about big deer and antelope and he proceeds to tell me about a drainage west of where we are the he sees lots of coytoes in.I told him when I'd be back so he'd know.Big Brother is watching.

Hell least they didn't swarm you (like you desrve for using anything other than Montanas in MT).  In this country they have the motion detectors and blimps; the eyes in the sky.  Our Gov declared a state of emergency and dispatched a bunch of State police, and gaurds man to the border.  Might be hard hunting quail in that part of the state this year.

Yotero, where are you located?  I have  relation in Bozeman.  Dont worry he doesnt trap , LOL.   One question, how in the heck do you have time for putter chat with all those yotes swinging in the breeze??  :?    Of course if Wackyducky was a little more supportive of your extensive endevors he would come up and  do the skinning for you so you could set more bracelets.... ...

Wacky    Don't like dogless traps, they're harder to adjust.I've tried them and don't like them(except Sterlings).
Rdfx. The chit chat didn't last very long.Everything I check is from the front seat of the truck and I only deadhead into 2 locations.
I gave my trapping trowels to my wife for gardening.I only take my"shortline low rolling sifter".hammer digger, pan covers and bait into the sets and remakes.Haven't used any urine or gland lure yet.I've changed the whole way/system I trap canines.I'm a changed man!
Rdfx I'm west of Mississippi and north of the Missouri River.I've got the better part of 4 counties line up to trap.Diesel fuel is only $3.13 a gallon here.

You really narrowed your location down :-D  :-D  :-D not much left of MT after you give them specs. :)

I thought you were a dogless sorta fellow.  I know what you mean, but this too may change as did some of your other habits.  Once you settle in on the adjustment you like the best and tune the dogless to these specs you're close to being done with trap tuning.  Sure you will dress / clean the notch each season but no messing with screws, washers, grit and the like or bending dogs etc.  Now mind ya I have only a couple dozen or so monties and run mostly dogged traps.  However, if I were to add on I'd be buying Montanas or use #3 Monties.

Say I thought you had coal shale in your country.  Course I could look on a map since you only are in 4 of the WEE MT counties.

Hey Wacky  I typed up a real smart mouthed remark yesterday but it never got posted.I live in the N.E. corner of the state by the little town of Antelope.I have an old farm/ranch place with some acreage.I'm 20 miles from Saskatchewan and 16 miles from North Dakota. There is some coal shale here.I've used it and I don't like it.It's oily so water puddles on top and freezes. When you make a catch the critters are filthy black if you bed traps in it.The coal shale boys are using waxed dirt now.My father in law has a big ranch west of here 49 miles. He gets me on lots of places that don't let anybody on.So far I've got invited back every year and new places open up.People at work ask me"now your coming out to our place and trap coyotes aren't you?"I'm going to retire from work soon and trap, trap, trap.I might even teach Boggie how to catch pale, heavy coyotes. He's getting to old to play in puddles.

Nah he'll just switch to smaller pudles that start off with a warm feeling :-D  :-D

Looks like you're in the only part of MT that lacks cats.  I do understand that you have the best of the best coyotes and 6 of them make a cat and more catches which is always a good thing.  Now you need to get cha set up with a electric winch skinner.

AND why would you make a smart mouth reply to anything I said?  Ain't we still buds?

Wackyquacker  I learned how to skin a warm coyote in about a minute and a half. All my coyotes get skinned warm while on the line. They're so much easier to peel warm I just stop, skin, gland them and roll.I have some nice carcass dumps.Got to go fill my Elk tag in the next 2 days.I'll be in the Missouri Breaks.Great cat country, just a little too far to travel to for cats daily.

Wacky  Snared coyotes go down to the basement and get skinned after they thaw out.

Yeah, I don't have a basement!  And when I use to tan I got holly H@## for washing the skins in HER washing machine.  She complained about hair in her underware.  Now I can see the logic when it came to coyotes and fox but not bobcats!

Well at least Wackys' wife has the CHRISTmas spirit  giving him Holly wishes!  Then again if she is wearing underware vs underwear she must be one mean tough lady.... and i would buy my OWN clothes washer to do furs, of course finding a Maytag wringer washer isnt easy now days, maybe Wacky could build one....
