1st deer with nef & son
« on: November 08, 2005, 03:56:43 AM »
First deer with nef & son. Took a nice 6point with a 295 power belt hp. Deer ran 30 yrds & piled up. My 8 year old was impressed & wants to get a deer now but needs a safe hunters course 1st so maybe next year

Sure was nice to spend some quality time with your kids & teach them the proper way to hunt. I try & take him as often as possible if it is out in the field or to the range. I think I have him hooked and he is quite responsible with firearms.
It also is a good excuse to acquire new firearms for his inheritance and get more hunting & range time
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Nice score!! You are very lucky, here in PA. you have to be 12 to hunt and my son is only 5. First step is a BB Gun and then .22 and then........... Jack.

Way to go men get your kids involved and have a fine time. They will always remember the time spent with their dad's in the woods.

THANKS GUYS IT WAS GRRRREAT.

Slayer, you may want to look at a henry mini bolt. Stainless synthetic stock(yuck but indistructable) & fiber optic sights. Bought one for my son last Christmas he is pretty salty with it only 2.5 lbs I think. Cannot mount a scope though but they should learn with open sights

he Also shoots a light 20 ga with 1oz loads. Have a 3030 handi down loaded for him but the gun is a little too heavy at this point but from a rest hes good. Shoots my 357/223/22 hornet handies off a bench all day long as fast as he can load em. He's got daddy's bug

Mama can have her alone time 8)  8)

ONE HOLE...Sounds like your 8 y.o. and my 9 y.o. are cut from the same mold.  I can't keep enough ammo around.  He's got a new Crickett coming for Christmas (i'll duck now) to augment his .22 revolver and .410.  Can't wait till they start producing some income, I'm buying for three!

Congratulations One Hole 4570, spend all the time with your son you can, one day you will turn around to look at him and he will be all grown up. I don't how it happens it just does, savor every minute you have with your children. One day your changing diapers, one day your reading bedtime stories, and the next your reading the front page of the newspaper about a firefighter who crawled through a fully engulfed second floor of a home, and located and pulled to safety an unconscious and severly burnt woman, in the next sentence you see it was your son!!! (she was in a Boston Hospital for 2-3 months after but she lived). I still get nervous when I remember reading that about my "little boy" a couple of years ago, when the heck did he grow up? I tried to be there with him when he was little but have found out you can NEVER spend to much time with your children. My daughter is no longer "Daddy's Little Girl" either but a beautiful, young woman, how did that happen without my seeing it? Just turn around and they are adults, so enjoy them while you can, as much as you can. It seems your doing a fine job with that, keep it up!!!....<><....

Thanks for the kind words MSPret I will take them to heart. Not long ago it seems I was trying to teach him to ride a bike now he's out shooting & hunting with me. Time flys hopefully he will remember for a long time & when he is out with his buddies later in life he can try & be the responsible one with the life lessons iI am trying to show him .

Sounds like you raise a couple of great kids I bet you are very proud

Thanks buddy, it seems we each have reason to be proud of our children. I forgot to mention I have found out it's very important to your kids that they KNOW we are proud of them, it's good for their self image and self worth. If they know we are proud of them they then want to keep us proud of them. They can then feel proud of themselves also. It's as simple as saying, "hey buddy, thats a great thing you did, I'm PROUD of you!!". Your doing a great job OneHole 4570, keep it up....<><....

Hey One Hole - been out of the office.  But to answer your question, I bought a Tarus tracker in .22 lr, lightened the main spring and did trigger job.  Make it a lot nicer for the little guy, he can actually use it as a double action instead of cocking the hammer for each shot.  He's gonna go ga ga for the Crickett.    I better stuff a thousand rounds in his christmas stocking too.

MSP - your brigin' a tear to my eye.  I was packing my stuff in my office last week, we're moving, I found lots of pictures from when my boys were little.  They're only 12 and 9, but I still can't believe how fast they grow and change.  The older one (lil ambushhunter) is starting to give me lip once in awhile!!  He's a fine kid, just tests his independence now and then.  Bye the way, congrats to your son.  I was a vol. fireman for 8 years and know how tough it is.  I had the same scenerio back in the late seventies, except the lady had already gotten out (no one saw her).  I busted out the 2nd floor window, dove in off the ladder to look for her when people started hollering she was outside.  Fine by me, I got the heck outta there!

Ambushhunter,

Your a brave man glad it worked out for everyone could have gone the other way & we don't want that.

I looked at the trackers but just have a thing for ruggers. Have a slabside & a std taper stainless 22 auto's he can work into as well, no DA 22's though. You will need a brick or 2 to hold him until christmas eve when it gets too dark to shoot   Also I got some of the 20 gr cobri's & the are wisper quite out of the mini bolt so the neighbours don't think its an invasion. I get a little lip now & then but I try to nip it in the but whenever possible
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Thanks fellas, I didn't think it was that big of a deal though.  Well, its friday afternoon, I got my new office lookin' good so I think its time for a short trip to the ol' waterin' hole.  Me and the boys are go burn some black powder in the morning while mama's at the library working (after a nice big breakfast, of course!).  Have a great weekend, talk to ys'a next week, Mark
