ATI or Choate Varmint
« on: November 08, 2005, 12:13:46 PM »
Hey guys~
I'm either going to buy an ATI buttstock:

http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-HRNEF.html

or a choate varmint buttstock:

http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page_detail.cfm?recordno=1&Product_CatalogID=2867&ProductNumber=19%2D02%2D08&ProductCode=33&ProductSubCodeID=197&NewProduct=0

I will be using it on all scoped rifles.  It appears that the ATI may be better suited for non-scoped handis though they advertise that a cheekpad can be added thought I can't find a pic of one on their website.  I realize the ATI may not be as attractive as the varmint but the bottom line is I don't care.  I'm looking for functionality in all situations.  Any input??  Thanks!

Yup, have ta vote CHoate...it's at least functional, though not exactly pretty. The ATI looks like a toy, to me.

I did own a ATI and sold it...it is nice to have something small and if that is what u want great, but you may find thgat there is too much side to side play when extended to shoot accuratly...that was my main problem with it

Matt,
I vote Choate also.  I have shot a 308 with the ATI stock, and I think it sucks.  It was sloppy and not comfortable in the shoulder.  I own a 308 Survivor and, after some modifications (recoil pad, built up cheek rest), I love it.

Just make sure you order the right part.  Your link was to the forend.  The stock is $48.85.

Welcome to GBO, RackWrangler!! The survivor stock is not a good comparison to the Ultra stock, it makes the survivor stock look like a toy stock, although they're both made by Choate as is the standard synthetic stock. The Ultra stock is adjustable for LOP and height, has a real recoil pad, and the forend is a bench shooter's dream in comparison with a removable bipod T-rail and wide profile.

Hey, dont sell the survivor stock short, plenty of room for matches, screwdriver, and a granola bar or two.   :drink4:

Now, seriously,   anyone know of an aftermarket stock for a Left handed savage 110.   Plenty of right handed options.

Quick,  Thanks for the welcome.  I have been reading posts here for about 3 months now, and I must say You guys rock!   I bought my Survivor about 2 years ago for my wife because she liked the "military style" grip (4 years in the Army made her used to it).  I didn't find any other H&R in the right caliber with that type of grip, or I would have bought one of the Varmint rifles because I like that stock better.  I have added a LimbSaver pad to the back (which makes the storage area almost useless) and built up the cheekrest so she can get a good weld.  She loves that rifle (and is scarily accurate  ), and I am a huge fan.  I am even thinking about getting rid of my 7mm mag Savage 110 for a 280 with the Varmint stock.

Thanks again, :D
