Did some shooting with my Encore .50 cal, these are the results;

50 cal BP - 100 grains Jim Shockey Gold power ffg, 250 grain TC shockwave sabots, Remington Kleanbore primers, Nikon Pro Staff 3x9 40 silver scope. This produces 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Played around with different powder loads but this combo shot best. The JS Gold is true to its name for ease of cleanup. I shot a final 15 sabots once I settled on the load. No cleaning and awesomeeee groups (1.5" at 100 yards). The cleanup was some hot water and quick brush and a few swabs, sparkling barrel. I also had no issues with loading the sabots. Went down and seated very easy.

I liked it much better than 777 and Pyodex.

Can anyone tell me what makes Jim shockey's Gold powder better than the original APP?

I shoot the regular ffg APP and have no apparent problems.

I still have some "clean shot" that I liked. I have not been able to find the new brand in my area. I have had more problems with the 209 primers in my Black Diamond than any powder.

I've used the clean shot, pyrodex, and Triple 7. Never really had a problem with any of them, but I always used the ffg powders. The Shockey Gold seemed to produce very consistent shots from load to load, even with the rather large grains. But man did it clean up like a dream.

The rumor was you'd need to use a little more because it was not as powerful grain for grain as 777. I did not find this to be the case. I didn't chrono my loads but they hit at the same spot as the 777 loads, just less smoke and easier to clean. This is even using the Remington Kleenbore 209 primers that some people don't seem to like.

I may try this stuff in my NEF Sidekick. I use the Veriflame with small pistol primers, I hope it ignites it alright? What does the gold cost a pound? Jack.

I've been using APP 2F and really like it.  I would like to get some Shockey Gold 3F to try.
I aim to please - but often miss.
