Just to clarify (and in response to your question and stated critera): .45 Colt is a round typically only used in revolvers; so, if you want a semi-auto, that's out. Same with .44 Magnum and .357 Magnum. Since you've stated a preference NOT for 9mm, that leaves you pretty much with .40, .45 ACP, and .357 SIG (well, 10 mm too).
I think Rockbilly is not quite correct, 'cause my understanding is that the SIGs are in EITHER 9mm OR .40-interchageable-with-.357-SIG ... but not interchangeable between all 3. That said, however, the SIGs are an excellent choice (including the 220 in .45); FWIW, I've heard that, in actual SIG pistols, .357 SIG has proved more accurate than the .40. As several have mentioned, the CZs are definitely worth looking at; they're very rugged and have a decent double-action (quite a choice in calibers and sizes too). It's important that you have NOT indicated that concealed carry is one of your selection criteria, as that opens up your choices to some of the larger, more rugged guns (like the Ruger and CZ). Once concealability is a primary factor, your choices get much more limited. Just my 2 cents.
