CVA .32 powder charge

Hey Guys,
 I bought a CVA .32 cal today and was wondering about powder charges and ball sizes. I have 310 and 315 RB. Can/will someone tell me of a good combination. By the way...she's a beaut! Double set trigs and spotless. I will be shooting squirrels tomarrow. I would like min. and max. charges if someone wouldn't mind. will let everyone know how she preforms. Thanks in advance.

What model did you get? I am looking for a plain jane .32 .310 ball use a .15 patch, .315 ball use a .10 patch. 20-30 grains of Goex FFFG works great.  Jack.

The old rule of thumb for BP was one grain/per caliber.

This gun was made in '82. Adj. rear sights, double set triggers. it's out in the shop right now and hard to get to as I have a broken leg. I teach 10-12 yr. olds at church and as any loving sunday school teacher would do I took them roller skating.........

With a .32 cal, accurate loads can be had with as little as 10gr FFFg. I wouldn't go above 30gr as you'll just be burning powder with no real gain in velocity or accuracy.

I use Hornady .315 RB and .010 pre-lubed patches with 30gr GOEX 3F in my mule ear and it has excellent accuracy and 22 Mag power.

I use a Hornady or cast .310 round ball and 20 or 30 gr FFFG out of my CVA Varmint 32.  Very good accuracy.

Both slayer and russianblood are spot on.   My 32's and 36's do fine with 15-25 grains depending on ball and patch used and what I'd be shooting with it.

I'm not into shooting max loads even for hunting, but still can't agree with the 1 grain/caliber adage though unless only for target or plinking loads.  Would work Ok in the common smaller to mid bores for hunting (depending on lots of factors) I guess, but not in the big bores on big or dangerous game ... from my shooting spot anyway.   50 in a 50, 54 in a 54, etc. on elk, moose, bear, cape buffs for example?   Nada.   :wink:

Many years ago we had a .22 steel silhouette shoot at church. Just as father and son thing to have fun and fellowship. While at the shoot I brought out my Dixie .32 Squirrel rifle. I had talked to the guy running the match and he thought it would be a good idea. I gave everyone a talk about the flintlock and it place in history etc. I then intended to give a shooting demonstration. I had read an article by Toby Bridges that said a .32 ML is about equal to a .22 LR so I figured it wouldn't be any problem with our little steel animals. I loaded my standard load of 20 grains of FFFG and a .315 RB. I aimed at a ram set out at 25 yards. When I connected that little ram went tail over teakettle several times. The fellow running the shoot stood there with his mouth open as did I. That little ball had put a VERY big dent in the middle of that ram. That was also the last shot for my little squirrel riffle that day.

If you all are looking for a cva or traditions 32 or 36 try Deer creek manufacturing at:1-765-525-6181 and ask for a catalog they also have powder to alpng with evrything possible to shoot. kjg
