have a chance to buy a 30-30 lever gun. the brand is westpoint. i was told it was made by marlin for ace hardware stores. is this true? is the gun worth anything? i just want a shooter to hunt whitetail in wisconsin, and don't want to shoot out a collectible. i'm sure with all the knowledgeable people on this sight someone will have loads of info for me. even a little would be appreciated,

yup, that's the one. except this one has no barrel band, and blued end cap on the front of the stock. 20" barrel model #33 (guess that makes it a 336 or a 30 a). it's in really good shape, and the serial # starts with a 69. also has a blued receiver and a saddle ring.can't find a blue book value on it though, unless it's the same as a regular marlin. thanks for the site,

okay just realised the barrel band was added as part of the modification. this rifle looks just like the before pic
