First and third all in the same day

First time poster... I just acquired three Contenders. They all appear to be fairly older models. One was pretty much complete. The only thing missing is the Pachmeyer grip to match the forend. It had a Super 14 .223 heavy barrel on it. The other two are frames with allot of missing pieces. In addition I acquired three other barrels, another identical .223, a 16" .223 and a 35 Rem. All of these guns and components are in "like" new condition. We cleaned out our gun room here at work and these are all test guns. There is a good possibility they may never have been fired.
Heres my problem. I decided to take the barrel off the good frame and try on the .35 rem. I dropped the pin, took off the barrel, popped in the .35, replaced the pin, locked it into the frame and there it stayed. I have pulled the trigger guard release all the way back and that thing wont budge. I pulled the pin and still no go. I get a little more movement with the pin out but it is still locked in. Its not just stuck or tight, its still fully locked up. What the heck did I do???

Before you respond, I just spent the last hour looking over old posts. I think I know what to do. I will drop the trigger group and see if that works. I don't have the correct punch here in my office so i'll work on it in the morning. Thanks.

forthejeep, What part of Oregon are you in? I can probably put you in touch with someone close to where you live that knows all about contenders and might even invite you out to shoot. I know contender owners from all over the state.
If you like, you can respond to my email.
