I'm getting about 1650 fps MV with the 158 gr XTP, but I use .38 Special brass to do it. It's the infamous Skeeter Skelton load modified by using the XTP. 12.5 gr Alliant 2400, CCI 500, 158 gr XTP crimped in the cannelure in .38 Special brass. I never have gotten the 158 XTP to shoot good, but the 180 XTP is an outstanding bullet!
The 125 gr Sierra JHC in .357 Mag brass will clock at 2060 fps MV, but that's loaded a little under the load I normally use.
One of the best loads around may be the Lyman 358429 170 gr Keith bullet with 13.5 gr 2400, CCI 500 in .38 Special brass at 1740 fps MV. The ME is within 100 ft lbs (1088 ft lbs vs 1175 ft lbs) of the hotdog 125 gr .357 load. The Taylor Knockout figure is higher for the 158 than it is for the 125 (14 vs 13.11)!
