My friend saw a M1886 in 45-70, used.  I'm interested in buying it.  I never saw the rifle.  He says it is in excellent shape, crescent butt.  Did Winchester make a modern-day run of these rifles?  The owner is asking $400.  Any ideas, worst case scenario, it being modern instead of an oldie, what is the value?  Thanks.

Most likley it is a Browning (Japanese) reproduction. Still, it's probably worth double what he is asking. I would jump on it.
