can the recoil of a muzzle loader be compared to a rifle?
50 cal pushing a 300 gr xtp w/sabot  at 2100 fps using 2 50 cal pellets.
compared to a  45/70 pushing a 300 gr boolit at 1880.
i saw a reddot scope at cabelas and the review says it will handle recoil
up to a 50 cal muzzleloader.

No 300gr load with 2 pellets will ever reach 2000fps, not even close.  My Marlin 444 shoots a 300gr XTP at 2100fps with 57gr H335.

You might get that speed from a 300 gr. bullet using 3 50 gr. pellets, but not 2.

But if you are looking for a red-dot for your muzzleloader, get a Ultra-dot. Mine is on a 500 Mag handgun and is going strong.  :D

I have a Marlin 1895 and an H&R SHIKARI in 45-70
And they will both really let you know when they go off.
The Marlin is downright unpleasant to shoot with some handloads.
My CVA Optima does not kick nearly as hard with a 100 grain charge
of 777 and a 300 gr bullet.

i have a traditions inline Buckhunter and with the 240 grain hornady sabot and 100 grains of Clean Shot, it doesnt kick hardly at all. not even close to my .243.

btw guys, check out the clean shot. it is less flammable than black powder, and- i am not kidding or exaggerating- takes 3 patches to totally clean your gun. one to push the gunk out, one to touch it up, one to oil it. youre done.


amazing and worth the money to me. in fact it has led to me using my muzzleloader more.

I would call the recoil of a muzzle loader a push and the recoil of a rifle a kick.

Well, when I load up my NEF Sidekick for giggles with a 470 gr Maxi Ball and 100 gr of Goex FFG. ;et me tell you, it is worse than a .30/06 with a 180 gr bullet. Just about what a high power .45/70 load feel like. I don`t do it very often, but it is fun once and a while. I only have a few of these left as T/C has discontinued the 470 grainer :(  :) Jack.
