If I understand what you're saying, you mean to coat the stock with the paint? If that's the case, then yes, I've done that. I was reading in Rifle Shooter magazine a few years ago about putting a texture(custom stock look) onto a stock. Figured it couldn't hurt seeing as how I wouldn't be out much if it didn't turn out, but turn out it did. I took the stock, swivel studs, and everything not to be painted off the rifle, and roughed it up with sandpaper(I think it was 60 grit). Then just sand the hell out of the stock till it looks like it was sent through a wire wheel. Then I cleaned the stock with alcohol to get the bits of stock, oil, etc... off the stock. Then you tape off/pack with newspapers anything that you don't want painted. Next up was to apply primer. The first coat I put grey primer on, but didn't think that it would contrast enough, so I put another coat of red/brownish color primer on. After that, I put a single coat of texture paint on the stock. The article said to use texture trunk paint, but I couldn't find that so I used "Fleck Stone" that I found at Wal-mart. It worked out really nice with the red under the grey texture, all against a stainless rifle. When all that paint was dry which took a day, I put 2 or 3 coats of clear polyurethane on to help seal the texture paint in and protect it a bit. If I could find out how to put pictures on here, I would show how mine looks, but so far, the finish hasn't worn off, and it's been almost a year since I did it. Gives the rifle a totally different feel, and makes it a cinch to control in the groundhog fields.
