Winchester 45LC for hogs?
« on: November 13, 2005, 12:26:53 PM »
Zach and myself were coon fingerin' a couple of Winchester 94's in 45LC yesterday and talking about how much fun it would be to bust some hogs with one.

Has any one here used one? I see no reason for it not to do well, especially since we get a lot of shots under 50 yards.
Yeah, my boy out shoots me, that's him in the avatar, but I taught him how!

Sounds like a good idea to me.

One of two issues:  Load 'em stout, or shoot 'em close.

 :D
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

yes! i have taken several hogs with the 45 colt! i used lbt design. 300 or 310gr. wfn cast bullets with gas checks. over a heavy dose of w296, or h110. to good effect. they hit hard and go through for a good blood trail! the longest was about 80 yards. all but one were one shot kills, i pulled one in the gut, it left a great blood trail, but went for a long way before i got another shot, to finish the job.
it,s a great cartrige when loaded properly! it will bang the crap out of anything inside of about 150 yards! and you can load way down for plinking. my21 inch contender carbine will shoot two inch groups at 100 yards. i cant see nearly that far from my favorite tree stand.
  great choice!
