cooper in 6mmx284
« on: November 13, 2005, 01:35:15 PM »
i just had a cooper varminter rebarreled to 6mmx284. i have a sightron 6-24, to put on it. i can't wait to shoot it! i have 100 rounds of lapua brass, but i still need a seater. the suspence is killing me!
i'm thinking this should be the ticket for ultra long range groundhog hunting. and i could load 95gr. partitions for bigger stuff.
do you guys think this is enough cartrige for smallish florida deer? mid sized north florida deer! not key deer.
  thank you!

What twist rate did you order ?

The 120 / 140 class of bullets should do fine.

You might be a bit over guned. What range do you think your shots are going to be?

Pick a good bullet and your fine

Not a lot of 120-140 gr 6mm bullets out there??????????????
The 6mmx284 is one hell of a deer caliber regardless of size of the deer.
Cooper--------all the bullets I listed loads for in the pm are deer worthy.

I believe that you must be talking about the 6.5X284.

Because of the velocity I would look at the 85 Gr. TSX Boat Tail & 95 Gr. Swift Scirocco.

thanks guys!
i,m very excited to shoot this thing! i just got a wilson seater. and i,m ready to start loading. i,m starting with the 87gr. v-max. it was in the middle of the weight range?! i would like to shoot heavier bullets, but this barrel is a 1-12 twist, and was told a bit slow for the big 107grainers, with there high bc, i bet they go forever.
i have shot a groundhog at 521 yards. this rifle and 6mm 284 cartrige is supposed to be my ticket to a six or seven hundred yard shot. those kind of shots are hard to find and even harder to make!
 thanks guys!
