Favorite handloads for 7mm-08
« on: November 13, 2005, 01:43:36 PM »
I am currently shooting factory ammo, but I'm not getting the results that I had hoped for (I'm getting about 1.5" groups at 100 yds.)  I was wondering what loads worked well for those that shoot the 7mm-08, particularly anyone shooting an Encore rifle.

I would try around 40 gns of Reloader 15 with a 140 Accubond.  Of course always start a bit lower and work up.  I would also do a bit of measuring and see what OAL you might have the best luck with.

I use soft loads of IMR 4064 35.5 to 39 grains under a 139 Hornady.

Remington 700

120 Hornady SP 41.0 H4895 Rem brass
160 Sierra Gameking 37.5 Varget Win brass
150 Nosler BT 38.5 Varget Win brass

Remington 140 Corelokt's went 1-1/2 to 2".  Which is good enough.  All three of the handloads go less than 3/4" with the Gamekings a lot smaller.  I tried 139 Hornady SP with Varget and BLC-2 and got nowhere fast.

A few years back I was working up some loads for a Model7 Remington Stainless rifle. This was the best combination I could find and it produced 1/2" roups at 100yards.

                                LC cases for .308 Win
sized with a Redding 7/08 neck size die
                                CCI Benchrest Primer
                                 44grains Varget
                                 Winchester 150 PP 7mm bullet

This will crunch when you seat the bullet. The velocity was @2990FPS.

For my Savage 11, using Win 760 powder and charge recommended by Win along with WLR primers and Sierra 140 grain bullets gave me 3/4" groups at 100 yards.

This is the load I use in my Encore. Rem. cases, Win. LRP, 45.8 grains of IMR-4350 and a 140 Nosler BT. This load put 5 rounds into .9 inches at 100 yards of the bench.
