Hi:

Has anyone tried using the Hoppes BoreSnake? How well does it work compared to a regular gun cleaning kit? Is it hard to use in a lever action rifle?

Thanks,

I have bore snakes for .22 pistol, .22 rifle and 12 gauge shotgun.  For these applications I think they are the greatest thing since canned beer.  One pass through the bore and the barrels are very clean.  I'm not sure how they will work for center fire firearms where metal fouling may be a problem.  I'm thinking of getting a .30 cal snake for my Garand for use as a quick cleaner until I get the time to run wet patches of bore cleaner through it.

I love them.  I especially love them for my rifles that are not easily cleaned from the breech.  I take them to the range with me also and use them every 20 rounds or so.  Only takes a second and takes away the fouled barrel excuse for that flyer in my fifth group.  They seem to keep my centerfires clean as long as I only put solvent on them.  If the rifle is to be stored for any length of time I run an oily patch through the bore with a cleaning rod.  Putting oil and solvent on the bore snake ended up giving me a foul, greasy mess.

I keep at least two for every caliber...one to use with bore cleaner and one to follow up with just oil. I still use patches, brushes etc on the tuff stuff, but if it ain't that dirty, the bore snake gets the nod. Do keep them washed frequently to avoid dragging old dirt thru your barrel.

Bore snakes are the greatest thing since silicone implants, oops, I mean silicone gun socks.
