Loads?
« on: November 15, 2005, 07:58:22 AM »
I had a question come up on another forum that got me to wondering.
In regards to smoothbore cannons and mortars, what are we allowed to shoot out of them? I mean besides lead or zinc balls, golf balls and concrete filled aluminum cans.
This person was wanting to know if it was legal to shoot flash-bang loads removed from 12 gauge shells (the removal which I am certain is dangerous).
What about grapeshot (probably would make the cannon a sawed-off shotgun)?
I intend to stick to lead balls but I am curious.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Grapeshot is probably OK.  Exploding projectiles are classified as "destructive devices" and require a special federal tax to be possessed.  Regarding the "flash-bangs", a letter to the ATF asking is your best bet for a definitive answer.  Can he possess them as 12 ga. loads?
