I am looking at purchasing a tumbler and I wanted to know which brand and model was the best choice.

I just got the RCBS last week and love it already. Not as expensive as some I seen, not as inexpensive as others.

I have two of the Lyman Auto-Flo 2200's (one with treated walnut and the other with treated corncob), and I have never had any problems with either.

Have no idea how long I have had them, but it has been well over 12 years.

I use the LYman 2200 and also the RCBS Sidewinder. The sidewinder cleans quicker, but the 2200 has a larger capacity. They both do what I need done, but the sidewinder can also use liquid cleaner, that do a very good job in only 30 minutes with badly tarnished cases.

I've been using my RCBS for over 20 years now.

My next one will be RCBS. I bought a Franklin, and it worked great for 2 years. I always had light loads in it, never more than 50 brass. Then some of the nuts inside the unit loosened up and one of the screws fell thru and jammed up the weighted fan deal. I put everything back together and tightened everything up but now it makes a lot of noise, I imagine the fan deal is bent up just enough to screw up the balance for correct vibration. Anyway, will not be buying another one from them.

I recommend the RCBS tumbler.

Mine is more than 15 years old & works perfectly.

OK, for starters, I'm real new to reloading.

Do I need to tumble my cases for a technical reason or just to make'em as purty as factory loads? It doesn't seem simple tarnish would cause much of change in brass dimensions to be an issue, am I way off base here?

Enlighten me.

Nixter,

The tech reason for tumbling is it cleans the cases of any abrasive particles (both from firing, and when cases are picked up from the ground) that could damage your reloading dies. There is the benefit of prettier brass, but generally the former I stated is why it is good to tumble them.

I don't think I've had experience with RCBS's tumblers, but I just had one tumbler die a few months back. I bought this one after my other one went kaput.

Cabela's Case Tumbler

Not too expensive, and the capacity is good. BTW, it operates with minimal noise. My other tumbler, I could be in the dining room, and hearing it work out in the garage. The new one makes about the same if not less noise than an average size kitchen faucet. JMO.

I've been using a Midway tumbler for the past eight years and have had no problems from it. Have cleaned 100 44 mag cases at the same time and it worked great.

I can only speak for what I've had experience with. Been reloading for a couple years and using the relatively inexpensive Frankford Arsenal tumbler from Midway USA. Got no complaints. I have found the treated Lyman corn cob media works much faster than plain ground cobs with a cleaning agent added.

How many here have went the route before they got a tumbler where you washed your brass and scrubbed them on the inside with a brush and steel wool for the outside? :eek: This threat has brought back a few fond memories of years gone by. Lawdog

Me sir but I can't attest to the fondness of those memories! Actually, I still do to some extent, I still scrub the insides of my black powder cartridge cases.

If you need one and can't afford one, just use an old ice cream freezer. Take out the paddle and lean it over with corn cob media. Works great and is almost free..
