I've been tinkering with my Taurus P85 5 shot .38 caliber titanium revolver......It's my carry gun........I've had it a few years and never had the side cover off..........I don't shoot it as much as I should, but it goes a lot of places with me so while cleaning it I thought I'd pop the side plate off to check the condition of the internals..........
Generally the pistols internals were very clean considering..........anyway.....took it apart.......cleaned it.......knocked the burrs of the sear and disconnecter........polished the hand........there were very few wear marks and without the springs the action is very smooth......thinking I'd try a new main spring to reduce the double action pull.....
I've always thought the best thing to do with a carry gun is leave it alone.......I was in Miami during the Overtown riot.....and subsequent trial of Officer Alverez.........the prosecution and defence spent several days and called a few experts trying to determine if the revolver was safe as it had a very nice trigger................if I remember correctly the officer cocked the piece and placed it on the back of the suspects head.......it went off.....Miami's Overtown district was in flames the following night.......
My buddy in the bail bonding business says cut the hammer off so that I have to use it double action........says leave the spring alone........tells me, that after rabbit hunting with me all those years......that our reaction time to draw and shoot is faster than average.......and to quick for a hair trigger.........(he went in someones house, and blew away a lizard that moved while looking for a violent suspect)..........he got rid of the auto and went to a double action only revolver........
Anyway.....that's way to much information........but I'd like to drop the double action pull just a bit..........
