6.8 Rem 14"
« on: November 17, 2005, 02:07:00 AM »
Hello,  Just bought myself a 6.8 Rem in 14" for my Contender.  Santas coming early.  Any use of this setup as of yet.  Looks like it will be a nice whitetail setup even using the numerous factory loads now available.  How is felt recoil with a say 115g bullet from Remington?  Charts say it should be very tame and very accurate.  Thanks, LG

I have a 15" Custom shop barrel in 6.8 spc(contender). I love it. Very accurate, light recoil and worked very well on the deer i shot last weekend. I used a 110 gr TSX @ around 2600 FPS. I didnt recover either of the bullets that went in:) Didnt think i would. Good bullet expansion....first shot went through the heart...next shot went through the shoulder and spine. Second shot wasnt needed. 1st shot 50 yds, 2nd 80 yds. I have had good luck with H335..every load with that powder has been pretty darn accurate. Hope this helps

I have a 21" contender carbine barrel in 6.8 Remington.  Got dies but couldn't find any brass to load.  Finally got some Remington factory ammo.  I had one failure to fire from the first box and two from the second.  Good primer hits, changed frames and tried the 3 again, still didn't go off.  Anyone out there with similar problems, or possible solutions?

I had a 23" barrel on a G2 and the first box of factory loads I shot 5 would not shoot. I called TC and I sent the frame in... they replaced the hammer spring and something else (can't remember) ..soon as I got the g2 back I traded it in on an encore. My 6.8 shot great though.....

I had fits with my 6.8 23" TC barrel.   Hit or miss with the rifle firing.  Have been reloaded for over 8 years for all types of rounds with out any issues.  At first I tried different primers (for some reason large pistol seemed to fire consistently), then a heavy 51 lbs. spring from Bellm's web page (upped my fire rate some, but still misfires) and then finally contacted Contender.  You will hear talk about head space over and over.  My new 30-30 bbl from Thompson has the same misfire issues, but I can fire the same rounds all day in my Mod. 94 Win., with out issue.  I understand head spacing, but even had issues in "factory" Silver State ammo for the 6.8 Rem.  I am at a point that I can't recommend a TC in any tapered cartridge unless you wish to micro manage what you shoot.  Never had issues with straight walled pistol rounds, but everything else is the pits.
