Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for loading the 7.62X54R?
I'm using Hornady .308 SST's, Winchester brass, and probably Varget.
Any favorite powder/bullet in this caliber?
Thanks,

MH

You need to slug the bore on you're rifle before you assume a particular buller diameter will shoot with any kind of accuracy. Bores on rifles chambered for this cartrige run anywhere from .308 up to .314 depending on when and where they were made.

Krochus,

Yeah, I slugged it, and it came out to .3095, that matched the info that I found online for the rifle (Finnish Mosin Nagant). I figured the .308 would be a good start, as the Sierra book shows the .308 bullet, and my Lee die for the 7.62 sizes the neck to .308. Gets a little confusing with all of the groove diameters for that particular rifle and caliber.

In that case you should be set.  Varget should be a good choice for powder For some reason I prefer the heavier dullets for this caliber. After reading you're post you've got me wanting to load some ammo for my Finn 91/30

Krochus,

Thanks for the help and info. I hope to get out and shoot it this weekend, if my Midway order shows up Friday like it should. Just need my #16 shellholder for my primer, and I'll be loading. If I have any non-embarrassing results, I'll be sure to post them!

Thanks again,

MH
