30/30 accuracy

i am VERY pleased with the way my 336cs is shooting.. i'm not sure if this is common accuracy for this rifle and round  but i can get  3/4'' at 100 yards groups (5 shots) consistantly... is this something uncommon?  from what i gather 2'' groups at 100 yards is about what should be expected

I have a 30AW which is a variant of the 336.  I have a 2.5X7 scope on it and after I cleaned up the trigger I can do 3/4" groups (5 shots 100 yards)with Federal Premium ammo.  It gives me plenty of confidence hunting with that kink of performance.  Good luck with yours.

Since you got this gilt edged accuracy, free for nothin', you can safely sight in at 150 yards instead of the normal 100. The bullet'll will probably be 2" high at 100, and only 5" low at two hundred. A scope will make this trajectory seem even flatter. Since 5" drop plus less than 2" of inaccuracy is smaller than the roughly 10" vital zone, your ol' "turdy-turdy" can reach right out there and tag that, down the power line, or across the clearing, buck.

my little 336Y, with the short 16 inch barrel will shoot 5 shot groups into an inch all afternoon.  Thats using my handloads, a 170 grain  Speer FP over 34.5 grains of IMR4320.  I use an older Redfield 5 Star 20mm scope, a 1 X 4 Variable.

My Savage pump, a Model 170, shoots as well, with the same ammo.  That rifle has another Redfield 5 Star 20mm scope, this one a 2 X 7 Variable.

I am looking forward to trying some of the new Hornady soft pointed tip ammo, to see how accurate it is.  That should extend the range of the 30-30 quite a bit for deer hunting.
