Thank you Kombi and Nomo, your points bring home a couple of the positive attributes of the .270WSM. One more point I would make, is that in the .270WSM, one can achieve full 270 Win. performance, but at even lower pressures, so brass lasts longer, easier on the rifle and easier on the shooter. The .270WSM was an excellent solution to my long given up on desire for a .270 Redding custom rifle. With 3 boys to provide for I couldn't justify the expense of having a short action .270 built to launch 130 gr bullets at 2800 fps with negligible recoil. With the Walmart Super Shadow in .270WSM, and handloads, I accomplish it easily with the bonus of having the potential to approach 7mm Remington Magnum ballistics (150 gr bullet at over 3100 fps). All available in a rifle that cost less than $400. (Don't get excited Captain Obvious, I said approach a 7 Mag not exceed).
And for someone who is going to hunt deer and maybe an occasional elk (haven't gone yet, maybe next year, which I say pretty much every year), I can't imagine a better cartridge/rifle for someone like me.
