I scored another one with my Blackhawk!
« on: November 19, 2005, 03:42:25 PM »
I went this morning in Montgomery county(VA). It was either sex, so I was looking for "A" deer, not antlers! LOL!

I shot this one at about 8:30 am(guessing?). she was sneaking along the edge of a thicket, and quartering away from me when I shot her. She was down hill from me at a fairly steep angle about 60 yards or so away. I normally try for a closer shot, but had a good rest for my forearms between two trees, so I felt good about the shot.

At the shot, she bucked up, and kicked, and took off like a streak. She fell about 40 yards from where she was hit, just out of my sight in the thicket. The bullet went through the back edge of the facing lung, clipped the top of the heart, and went dead center through the off lung, and exited tight behind the off shoulder kinda low, leaving a quarter sized hole.

The vitals had a wound channel about 1.5" through them, and needless to say, the blood trail was very easy to follow within a few feet of the shot.

That's great Jerry!  You keep piling them up with that Blackhawk!  Nice pic by the way.  I'm still at zero by the way, hunting on a different property now.  Again, congrats!

Carwi,

Have you shot any game with those cast core bullets yet?

No Jerry I haven't shot any game with the Beartooth 185's yet other than varmints, but they do a number on them on the inside.  Hoping to get a deer soon with them and I'll let you know.  They don't foul on me either.  They're a great bullet to use in these .357's.  The meplate is a wide .280 and you can shoot them in your blackhawk but you woud need to alter your 1894C's carrier a bit to feed them thru.  The critter I shot was fairly large and can't give specifics but it did bust thru both shoulders and left an easy blood trail.

I could see the picture when I clicked on the red "x".  Jerry you might want to reduce your pics to 800 X 600 Pixels and see if that works.  I'll give that a try, hope you don't mind.
