I went this morning in Montgomery county(VA). It was either sex, so I was looking for "A" deer, not antlers! LOL!
I shot this one at about 8:30 am(guessing?). she was sneaking along the edge of a thicket, and quartering away from me when I shot her. She was down hill from me at a fairly steep angle about 60 yards or so away. I normally try for a closer shot, but had a good rest for my forearms between two trees, so I felt good about the shot.
At the shot, she bucked up, and kicked, and took off like a streak. She fell about 40 yards from where she was hit, just out of my sight in the thicket. The bullet went through the back edge of the facing lung, clipped the top of the heart, and went dead center through the off lung, and exited tight behind the off shoulder kinda low, leaving a quarter sized hole.
The vitals had a wound channel about 1.5" through them, and needless to say, the blood trail was very easy to follow within a few feet of the shot.
