« on: November 20, 2005, 06:23:03 AM »
i already have a  browning a-bolt in .223wssm. was just wanting to know what some of you guys think. would getting a .22-250 in addition to the 223wssm be too similar to what i already have? i also have a tikka .223 and was wanting another rifle. possibley a .22-250 or a.204.

Why not get a .22-250 to go along with the .223 WSSM?  In .224 centerfires I have .22 Hornet, .223 Rem., .224 Weatherby, .22-250 Rem., .220 Swift and .223 WSSM.  I wish the heck I still had my .222 Remington that i traded off years ago.  You can never have enought and they all have their uses.  Get the .22-250 then save up for the .204 Ruger afterwards.  Lawdog

thanks for the reply lawdog, there is really no reason not to get the .22-250 other than i was hoping to find out what other people thought about those two calibers being so similar balistics wise that it would give a person basically two guns that were almost the same and maybe go for the .204 now and see what they are like.

The .22-250 is an excellent, proven cartridge that has nothing else to prove.  Even though it is slower than the .223 WSSM by over 200 fps., the WSSM won't replace it.  The .223 WSSM wasn't designed to replace the .22-250 just give hunters/shooters a new option that is inherently more accurate.  As for the .204 Ruger, itÂ’s even newer and load work is still an ongoing process.  Much like it is with the .223 WSSM.  If you are trying to decide between the .22-250 and the .204 then I say think of it like this.  The load work on the .22-250 is basically done and the load work on the .204 is just beginning.  If you want to experiment with load work then the .204 is the way to go.  Lawdog

I have a 17HM2, 17HMR, 22 Hornet , 204 Ruger, 223, and 22-250. Enjoy them all. 22-250 Ruger 77 was my first and probably still my  8) favorite....but ya gota love that 204!
