Saigas
« on: December 03, 2002, 09:28:15 AM »
KDS:  I read a Gun tests write-up on the Saiga in both the 7.62x39 and the 308.  It seems that neither rifle would shoot as well with a scope as it did with the open sights.  I do not recall any other negative comments about either rifle or caliber although I seem to recall someting about the stock setup.  One of them came with a thumbhole stock, which a lot of folks didn't/don't like.  I also can't recall what they said about the twist rate for either caliber.  I would expect the 7.62 to be somewhere in hte 1:9 range and the 308 to be in the 1:12 range but ya can't never tell.

I believe that with the 7.62 version you can restock to the original AK configuration if you want but I'm not sure about the same with the 308.

I think that if you go to www.gun-tests.com you could probably locate the article.  Hope this helps.  Mikey.

I have a 7.62x39 in a mini-30, I call it the mini-wounder, crappy deer cartridge if that is what you are looking for. i hate tracking a good vitals shot so I bought a .308

just bought the 308 saiga from cdnn for $229 plus my $40 ffl fee from my local range.
they are made in the original plant that produced the original ak's,check out the history and designer link above.

anyone know which rcbs die set I need for handloading?
I ordered the small base set as these are reccommended for semi auto rifles.
