Deadeye47 aka John Scoggin RIP
« on: November 20, 2005, 10:59:41 AM »
Gentlemen I have finally tracked down and made contact with Deadeye's family. He passed away very suddenly on Oct. 9, 2005.

So it seems our worst fears have come true. I think from the postings that many of us suspected this had happened and it has. I spoke with his daughter-in-law as her husband, John's son was out when I called.

So the mystery of what happened to Deadeye is now solved but for sure not the way I'd hoped it would be.

I knew him but briefly and met him only the one time at the prairie dog shoot but did get to spend a fair bit of time with him as we shot at the same locations some. He seemed to be a genuinely fine man and met the true definition of a gentleman. We'll all morn his loss I'm sure.

That is truly bad news, but not a surprise, the last email I received from him wasn't good news at all. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all those he has touched here, he is and will be missed. :(

Thanks for the update Bill, much appreciated.

He was the last person Jimmy and I spoke to with the Pdog shoot and was kidding and joking with us when we left. He made a fine impression on me.

I am much saddened to here of this.  I met Deadeye on the p.dog hunt in OK and he spent most of the 2nd day with me and Kevin (Bigredbarn).  We sat, talked, shot, fixed lunch on the grill, that Kevin brought, and had a heck of a day under the awning that Deadeye setup.  He will be greatly missed and was a heck of a nice guy.  He left a letter for Kevin and myself, which thanked us for the time shared and hoped that we all would be able to share another p.dog hunt in the future.  RIP and my prayers to you and your family.

Indeed he was quite a rare person, from the little I conversed with him through PMs.

About a year ago, his mother died, after he had moved back to Bay City from Tulsa.  He had moved for the purpose of taking care of her during what I suppose was a fairly lengthy time.  Most would have put the aging parent in a nursing home and gone on about their own life, but John was obviously cut from a different cloth than that.

I had tried to call a Dallas number Marv sent me this afternoon, but it looks like Bill has succeeded in making the necessary contact.  Thanks for the effort and the information Bill!  Care from the whole GBO community is part of what makes this a good site to frequent.

Certainly prayers for the family are in order, even though it's been over a month since his passing.  Sometimes the times are tougher after the loss has had time to sink in.

This is truly sad and I am truly saddened by his passing also. John was a good guy. He had an honest sense of humor with a consideration for others attached to it. He hadn't had the easiest life but his humor had allowed him to deal with it and move thru it. I feel like he and I connected on a lot of issues and thoughts and I feel like we could have been good friends given the geographical opportunity. I am gonna miss his emails and his posts and I will surely miss seeing him at the next PD shoot. His absence will be felt, not just by me, but by others also I assure you. I echo................"Rest In Peace" my friend.

Just noticed that today would have been his birthday. Sad reminder of a great loss.
Bill, perhaps you guys should de-activate his account now or something.

Active or inactive is kinda immaterial in the case of a person who is no longer with us. What I have done is alter his signature line to indicate the date of his passing. That way any time someone reads a post made by him it should reflect the date of his death at the bottom.

No one but me would know if his account was active or deactivated anyway. I certainly would not delete it and make his posts go away.

Thanks GB, Deadeye deserves to be here with us just as he will remain in our hearts and minds. It's a nice thing you have done and I am sure Deadeye would appreciate it, as do all his "brothers" here....<><....

Bill I was just talking about the automatic birthday thing more than anything else. You've done good on all the rest mentioned. It just hit me a little strange when I saw that today would have been his birthday that's all. Really thought a lot of ole Deadeye.  :(
