Is the 375Win any thicker or stronger than the 38-55? I seem to have read that somewhere. Externally, they are identical but for a .008 difference at the neck.

Yes, .375WCF brass is tougher and has slightly less capacity. It is about 0.10" shorter than .38-55 brass too. You can make cases by blowing out .30-30 brass. For most uses you don't need the strongest cases.

Thanks, I was thinking about using 38-55 brass in a 375WCF single shot and just trimming it down to size for the length. I'll be shooting 250gr lead bullets at a docile 19-2000fps, so I don't expect pressures to be too high.

Be very careful about those "docile" loads. Accurate Arms data shows loads giving a 250 cast bullet 1850-1900 fps can develop pressures between 33,000 cup and 49,900 cup, depending on the powder....

I stand corrected. I thought I remembered seeing 23-2400 with a 250gr jacketed bullet. After going back and having a second look, it was 2250 with a 200gr bullet from a 20" barrel.

I'll be shooting a 24" barrel but I better go with 375 brass and lower my velocity expectations a tad.
