How's everyone doing in the southern zone??

Hey all. I'm a new guy here so I won't get crazy but the season here in Herkimer and Fulton counties is going fine.
One shot one kill? All I need is my ML all season long. Although i don't use it all season long. I need/want a scope.  I don't want a special early season. My tip to those that want an early season..."dress warmer"
The last one I shot was shot at -19 degrees.

Anyway, tomorrow I will be going out again to try to finish up filling all my tags for the year. Yesterday I pushed 7. I was just moving a little too fast (other things on the mind I guess)
Three more days left. Don't just give up. I'm not sure how much late season hunting you guys do but right now they are pretty bunched up everywhere.
take care

Been waiting all season to hit the woods during muzzleloader, man this snow has really been a blessing down here in southern NY.  Yesterday had 6 doe all in my sights for the better part of 2 hours.  They finally walked off and I waited another hour in case there was a buck around.  Nothing then it was too dark to see my front sight anyway so I headed in.  At least I could see all the runs pretty easy.

Today I went out and within an hour or two I had filled my doe tag.  Small doe, 50 yard shot right through the ticker and out the other side with my .50 cal trade rifle.  Doe tag filled in 3M with my caplock.

Take a close look at my rifle, see anything wrong with it?   :)

Late season is best, I think. I see the deer better in the high contrast woods a little snow provides.

The deer in my area are still moving. Just saw a nice 8 pointer going across my property up here in the mountains.

I was a dummy and didn't want to lay my precious rifle in the snow so I hunt it off a branch.  Along with my coat.  Wind came along and I found out the tree it was hanging from was really a dead tree.  Down she went and nailed a rock.  The weight of the barrel cracked her right at the wrist.  It already had a "minor" crack there from a buddy slamming a metal ram rod down it because his lube wasn't working out so well.  Guess it wasn't as minor as originally thought!  Lucky day for me, actually.

Gonna go back out tomorrow with my .62 halfstock Sharon.  I'll have to post a pic of that baby.  Beautiful rifle.

Thanks and good luck guys, two days left!  We do get to hunt on the 20th correct?

Medbill, sorry about the luck with the rifle. Nice doe.

I was out yesterday and saw one doe. Tried to toss a Shockwave at her and WHIFFED!!!!!!
I'll be out in a few minutes to check the gun. I have no clue how I missed.
I'm printing targets right now.
I shot at about 80 yds and she stood there looking dumb as ever. As I grabbed to reload, while in the treestand, I saw her take off. I said to myself, must be a delayed takeoff. They happen.
I reloaded, got down out of the tree and walked to where she was standing. There was no hair, blood, nothing. I followed her tracks about 100 yds and still nothing.
As I got to the area she was standing I did see some small branches that I didn't see while in the stand. Her delayed response was similar to the response that some deer give when the wind is blowing away from them hard and you shoot. Similar to like, "What was that?"  My movement up in the tree should have been less obvious. Next time I'm pretend I'm bowhunting and take it sssssssslllllllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwerrrr.
Stuff to do today but I'll be out tomorrow. Gun permitting.

Hope you got out today adkhunter and thanks.  I just picked up the meat, too bad dinner was waiting for me already.  I didn't get out today but we still have tomorrow.  Pulled in my driveway and there were three doe waiting for me.    I made it inside with the groceries safely..this time.

Tomorrow I'll only be able to go in the afternoon but I'll give it my best shot.  Bet they were moving good today with this cold weather.  We gotta make up for the rifle guys that didn't fill their tags.  Muzzleloaders rule!   :-D  :-D

PS:  Where in the Dak's are you?  My uncle has a place up there and a good buddy used to own Pumpkin Mtn Gun Shop.  I got my first MZ buck on my uncles property in Olmsteadville.

I returned to hunt the last 2 1/2 days with bow.  My son and I saw 23 and one buck the first day with only one shot fired.  Amazing how cold fingers can throw one off.  Only saw 2 the next day.  On Tuesday we saw one buck and a total of 6 does.  Not bad for sightings.  Whis I had more time.  Might have got something.

Bill
I'm from the area near exit 29a on the NY Thruway. Little Falls area.
I work in the southern Adirondacks as well as try to hunt most of the season there too.
I'm an arborist of a landowner that has about 5600 acres.
I do have hunted many places in the state though.
I must say. I prefer the big woods style of hunting. I'll never say no to an invite to other areas. A hunting friendship is the cats meow!

Sorry for the late report. I am new to this site. Despite not seeing many deer, I was fortunate to take two - one with bow and one with the smokepole (first deer ever with ML so I was pretty happy!) Nothing with the shotgun.
