New here and really have gotten and education from reading these posts.  On to the issue:  Got a Super Blackhawk Hunter in a 44mag. a couple of weeks ago and need a scope.  I will not be shooting more than a 240gr bullet.  Will be hunting whitetails w/ it out to, but unlikely to exceed 100 yds.  Thinking of a fixed 2x or 4x; leaning toward the 2x.  I have look at Leupold and Nikon, and have read of Bushnell's 3200, Burris and Weaver.  Between the Leupold and Nikon I preferred the Leupold but $300 is a bit steep for me.  I didn't like the reticle as much on the Nikon.  Tell me about the Weaver.  Will it hold up?  The price is better and some of the reviews are good.  Is the Leupold worth it?  Your thoughts.  DGrig

I am a true blue Leupold guy. But I don't like the Leupold pistol scopes. I like the Bushnell handgun scopes and have several of them. I like the 2X6X32mm. I have the option of the low setting and if needed I can crank it up. I have one on my Freedom Arms 454 Casull and one on my S&W460 Mag. And they are holding up well.  :D

I have the Hunter in .45 Colt and have on it a 2X Leupold.  If you want a Leupold, I would suggest looking online and getting discontinued M8.  Got mine on Ebay for around $120 shipped, nib.  Nice clear optics and I can't complain about the price.

I don't know if I would recommend that variable that Redhawk mentioned...  Oh no, I really love Bushnell scopes, a lot of bang for the buck, but if I remember correctly that scope was too long for the Hunter.  Too long meaning that you'd have to take off the front fixed sight to get it on.  I for one, always like to have the fixed sights ready to go if I break the scope in the field.

i had the same gun.   i went through all the optics and i am of the opinion that nikon optics are the best deal going.  mine wore a nikon 2x.  i have no complaints about that scope.  in fact, i liked it better than the leupold 2x i had on my contender.  

leupold has a great name, and you do pay some for that.   but they have earned it.  

nikon's optics are every bit as good, and their warrenty takes a backseat to no one.  

i am a huge nikon fan,  the most bang for the buck (imo).

DGrig the bottom line is, go to a place where you can look at all the scopes and see which one you like. You will get so many different opinions and the only one that counts is yours. You have to like what you have.  :D

I had a Weaver 2.5X8 on my Encore 30-06 pistol barrel. But I liked the Bushnell better. The brightness was better on the Bushnell in my opinion.  :D

Just which model Nikon are you looking at?  I just went through their web site and couldn't find any models rated for handgun use.  I have a Burris on my Super Blackhawk .44.  Lawdog

Burris?

Hey, just got a Sierra Trading Post catalog today and they have a Burris 1.5x-4x-20mm silver pistol scope for $199.  It is 11.1" long...

I am not sure which Nikon it is, but it was definately a handgun scope... stated so on the box.  Leaning toward the Leupold if I can find one at a good price.  If not the Burris 2x.

I have three Nikon 2X scopes that I've very pleased with.  I'm in the process of trying a Bushnell 2-6 Trophy, hope to get to the range this weekend.

Don't let price be the main factor in your scope selection.  I have a Burris 2x on my SBH and love it.  I also have a Leupold on my 629 Classic and enjoy it also.  

Get the best you can afford.       :wink:

I just went to the two site addresses you posted.  No technical specifications, data or picture is available.  Nothing to tell what the eye relief is or anything.  Nothing there says they are made for handgun usage(EER - extended eye relief) doesn’t always mean they are intended for handgun usage.  I have sent e-mails to Nikon before asking for a complete listing of their scopes, including handgun and never an answer.  Lawdog

Don't know if I am too late but I have a weaver 2X on my SBH and its held up well. No problems holding accuracy. I've gone thru a decent number of rounds both in plinking loads and developing 2 different hunting loads.
