A New Handy Holic

Well he will be, my son just got his first handy today (will be his 12 birthday present this Dec 16).

Went to Gander Mountain to buy a smoker and walked out with a 7mm-08 Handy Youth Model

Well I wasn't going to buy it, but this rifle needed a home and my son really loves to shoot my 223Ultra and the new 445SM. (just 44mag loads)

I grabbed a sales men and asked him if he would knock some $$ off of this handy. It has some really bad handling makers on it and the bluing is scratched off in several places on the barrel.

We talked about it he said $10 I told him no thanks, he came back with how about $20. Well me being me I told him I was really thinking $30 he was silent for few secs and replied $25 I told him to ring it up.

We got the rifle home and tore it down and cleaned it really good, polished the chamber and the normal NEF stuff. This was a very nasty dirty rifle and my son seen why I took this rifle apart and cleaned.
Doesn’t look too bad in the pic.

I'll be mounting a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32 on it till I'm happy with his performance with it. Were we hunt 75 yards is a very long woods shot.
It should look something like this.

That’s the rig on the 445SM and I'll duplicate it on his rifle.

He is excited about it and unset. I told him he wont be able to use it for deer season this year but maybe for doe only season Jan.1-4.

P.S. I never did get that darn smoker.

Nice little Handi there Warf. And some nice wood too, for what it is. Hope she shoots well for the Lad.
