ok ice guys help me out (need short pole advice)

hey guys
 well  first i have to say there is no ice fishing going on in my state
(bummer) but i do have a young son who needs to recieve his first pole
for christmas   (sorry guys but i just couldnt live with the snoopy pole deal) so i figured why should junior fish with a snoopy when dad is fishing
a st croix or a lightning rod ??

anyway i was checking out 30 in ice rods and found that there are some neat ones out there   i think that the frabill one was one of them and also the berkley lightning ice

so can you guys suggest something to get him started in medium action
28-30 in  it will be used almost exclusivly for blugill at our local lakes
maybe a crappie or small cat but mostly for blugill

get an ugly stick ultra light.  i have two i bought years ago,  they are about 4 1/2 foot,  and have taken more abuse than anything should have to.   i also caught a boat load of fish with each.  they will handle the bluegills or the channel cat.   ice fishing poles arent what you want here.  they are built for the specific purpose at specific temperatures (cold).  best of luck.

I second the ugly stick.  I keep one in my truck at work for those emergency time-out's.  It has recieved a rough life, and still works great.  Has to be as least 5 years old, and it still a joy to fish with.
