Breech Plug Advice
« on: November 25, 2005, 11:08:42 AM »
Store the breech plug in a place that it can be found.  Mine was on the fridge in a film canister.  Then it was moved into a bag that was to go to the basement with my stuff.  It sat by the desk for a bit.  Then it made it to the basement and sat on the floor for a while.  When time came to get to the rifle range to fire off a few shots.  It turns out  the plug and bag it was in are no where to be found.  It just so happened that I did a major basement clean out a few weeks a go and took a load to the dump.  It makes me wonder what else was in that bag.

I called in to the factory and had a breech plug sent out.   It came Monday and it was the wrong size.  I called Tuesday morning and they sent one out that day and I got it today!!!  I would not have been happywith my self  if I would have had to skip out the first day of the Minnesota muzzleloader season.

You can bet I will keep good track of it this year.

Of to get the plug installed and gear packed for the hunt.

How much did they charge you? I bought one at a Sporting Goods Store last year for about $8, if I remember correctly. It is always nice to have a spare. I also have the .25 ACP plug for it too, but that one costs a liitle more. Good luck on your hunt.

The breech plug and tool (I lost that also)  shipped was $14.25.  I should of had them send me some of the primer carriers since I was already paying a shipping fee.

No deer yet this weekend.  A nice doe ran into the woods I was in.  It was about 30 yards away.  We  saw each other at the same time and we had a stand off and then she was gone before I could get the gun up.  I also saw a very nice buck in the area way out of range.  He is the kind that keeps a person hunting for the big one.

Ski,

Good luck on the big one!

I know what you mean I have been hunting one buck since bow season. He is a 130+ class 8 point, not a monster but a very respectable buck. Had him within bow range twice, but he was with a doe and would not stop where I could get a responsible shot. Let him try that when I have my Huntsman in my hands.  Our muzzleloader season starts Friday, but we still have 220 acres of corn standing. We had a few inches of snow until today, rained a ton and melted most all of it.

ski,

Just FYI. Bass Pro Shops now carries the primer carriers in their retail stores and in their catalog. Maybe you could combine the shipping with other items...

I found the breech plug!!  Only 9 months late.  It was in the basement on a shelf in a Yahtzee cup.  Well now I have a spare.

Snow??? We are waiting for the temperature to drop below 100 degrees so we can get out to shoot and get ready for hunting season.

the 25acp plug from prbullets is almost 80 bucks shipped to the midwest. If you ask me,(hell even if you don't ask me) I will say that the time you will save cleaning your rifle will pay for that after just a few outings. It takes me almost 20 mins to clean the receiver of my sidekick after shooting just one 209 primer in my gun. I have the stainless model and am very picky about my guns cleanliness(ex marine in the family...lol).  I don't know about you, but I  have a hard time getting into those lil crevises and tight spots with cleaning supplies. And I will not use any of the so called short cut aerosol products. If I use rags and patches and solvent and oil in my hands, then I can sleep good at night knowing I have treated my gun with respect. Be good to your guns, and they will be good to you. Also I have found that When I clean my guns often, I tend to notice real quick if something just is not right.

Just my two cents worth.
