Question for pre-64 M70 Experts
« on: November 25, 2005, 12:04:42 PM »
I am looking at a pre-64 M70 featherweight that has been modified (rechambered). It looks to be in very good condition, I would grade it at probably a conservative 85%. Wear on edges, bolt handle, and some small scratches on wood, barrel and floorplate. I was wondering how much that would hurt value on the rifle? It is somewhat discounted, but no steal. Thanks for any help you may give me.

Im no expert but the small scratches and the wear on the rifle wont hurt it as bad as the rechambering has,  :D    JIM

That was my thought as well. I have found rifles in about the same condition for $800-900, but were not rechambered. This one is a few hundred cheaper than that, but am not sure if it is worth the money, as occasionally I do find some originals in that price range. I like the fact that it is now a 300, just don't want to get taken if it's only worth a couple hundred dollars now.

If you are buying it for a shooter and like the caliber that should be all the incintive you need, you can always look for a original barrel to put it back like it was. :D    JIM

Not too worried about putting it back original. Just don't want to turn around and have someone tell me down the road that it is now a $300 gun!
