trapping questions
« on: November 26, 2005, 10:48:25 AM »
I'am going trapping up north for about a week on my christmas break from school I plan to target bobcat, coyote, otter abd beaver.

Will #2 bridgers be enough for bobcats?

How long of chain should I use on a drag for yotes and bobcat?

How can I freeze proof the sets?

FOr beaver and otter I have 330s 2 #4 longs and a #5 long, Is the #5 too big for otter?

Thanks a lot and If you have any tips on catching these critters in the snow please let me know
total for this year so far
3 grinners
2 coyotes
4 coons and
1 skunk

 so far

The #2 coil will work very well for bobcat and coyote.I have never used drags ,so we will see what others suggest,a lot s dependent on what you use for drags and their weight.
The traps you mention for beavers and otters are fine, you will find it both easier and more efficient to use your 330s on both of these animals.

On using drags  use a minimum of 6 feet but 8 to 12 feet is even better.   You can use  loop chain  on drags   and you dont have to use all machine or twist link (unless) you have alot or can afford it.... i have found in 50+ years i havent needed it and ive held wolves on drags with it.   Any more  questions fire away...
